Justice & Belonging in Children's Ministry

Western congregational culture has often operated with the assumption that children should be seen and not heard. The ABHMS Nurturing Children Initiative invites you to consider how this assumption breaks down through a decolonial lens of the Gospel, where the voices and spiritual expressions of the marginalized are centered. What does our faith have to say about belonging and justice? How are these themes understood by the children of our communities of faith? How might these themes inform our own practices of worship, prayer, and ministry with and for children? How do our practices as communities of faith convey justice and belonging to the youngest members of our churches?
